About Me
My name is Morgan Iskra. I’m eighteen years old and I’m a born-and-raised Yukoner. As a natural introvert, I’ve always enjoyed a good movie and a bowl of popcorn. But my love for movies has taken on a new meaning since the beginning of the pandemic when I got the chance to watch more. In particular, it was when I marathoned all the movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe chronologically that my hobby grew. I was introduced –quite literally- into a new universe, full of intricate storytelling and immaculate character-building. On top of such a good movie experience, I was stunned by the complex visual effects, or VFX, of the MCU. I found it exciting, the idea of bringing the impossible or the impractical to life. That was when I began researching what happens behind the scenes of cinema.
I think the reason I was interested in the VFX aspect of filmmaking is because it suits me the most. It incorporates creativity and artistry, which I have always had a passion for. I also thought it could be a possible career route for me, as I like the independent, product-focused nature of the job. That’s when I started looking into the different fields of VFX and how the industry functions here in Canada. I’ve also been toying with the idea of VFX schooling in British Columbia. Though it’s probably not the ultimate career I’ll have, VFX artistry is still on my mind.
